On behalf of Her Excellency the First Lady Amb. Ann Kimemia, County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Hon. Ann-Mary Gathigia today visited the 12 children from Nyandarua who were admitted for surgery at the AIC-CURE International Hospital in Kijabe on February 7, 2021.

The hospital, which is Africa’s first orthopedic pediatric teaching hospital for children with disabilities, conducts mobile clinics to identify children in remote areas who can be treated in Kijabe and to provide follow-up care for those who have received surgery.

The patients were identified in a January 21, 2020 assessment at JM Kariuki County Referral Hospital targeting an initial 50 children aged below 18 years suffering from such orthopedic conditions as clubfoot, burn contractures, osteomyelitis and other acquired or congenital conditions.

Having responded well to treatment, the 12 children are set to be discharged tomorrow.
The County Government facilitated their treatment by paying for their annual National Hospital Insurance Fund subscription, linkage with AIC-CURE International Hospital and transportation.
Hon. Gathigia thanked the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abed Kilonzi, for the great partnership between the two institutions.

Mr. Kilonzi committed to provide clutches and other assistive devices required by the children upon discharge.

Present was Chief Officer for Lands, Housing and Physical Planning Mr. Nelson Kimilu, accountant in the Department of Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Ms. Joyce Mrefu and Gospel singer Ms. Evelyn Wanjiru, among other celebrities.
