The Department of Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services today facilitated the discharge of six children from Nyandarua who had undergone corrective surgeries at AIC-CURE International Hospital, Kijabe.

The children thanked His Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia and First Lady Her Excellency (Amb.) Ann Kimemia for the support accorded so far.

A boy and a girl, also from the County, continue receiving attention from the facility, which is Africa’s first orthopedic pediatric teaching hospital for children with disabilities.

Following identification and assessment on January 21, 2020 at JM Kariuki County Referral Hospital targeting, an initial 50 children aged below 18 years suffering from such orthopedic conditions as clubfoot, burn contractures, osteomyelitis and other acquired or congenital conditions have been receiving wheelchairs from Kijabe.

Through the Department of Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services, an additional 250 beneficiaries have been identified for upcoming interventions spearheaded by the First Lady.
The First Lady, who is the matron of PWDs in Nyandarua, has been a champion for a wide range of causes, including healthcare for the aged, women, orphans and other vulnerable children.
