The Central Region Economic Bloc (CEREB) has welcomed the election of Embu Governor His Excellency Governor Martin Wambora as Chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG).
Speaking immediately after the exercise in Nairobi, His Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia – who is the bloc’s head – said the region is encouraged by the confidence in Governor Wambora’s leadership.
Governor Kimemia, who has previously chaired the CoG’s Energy and Infrastructure Committee, was this afternoon elected to chair the Water, Forestry and Natural Resources Management Committee.
Also elected to head committees from within CEREB were their excellencies Hon. Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri – Education), Hon. Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga – Gender / Sports), Hon. Kiraitu Murungi (Meru – Legal), Hon. James Nyoro (Kiambu – Agriculture), Hon. Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru – Infrastructure) and Hon. Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia – Finance).
The primary objective of CEREB is leveraging on economies of scale in undertaking joint development projects and activities for its 10 member counties, which are Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Kiambu and Nakuru.
Mount Kenya region is endowed with enormous resources, including a youthful and vibrant population driving innovation and productivity.
It also has rich climatic conditions which enable production of a variety of crops critical for national and international markets, among other resources.
Further, the region is strategically placed close to critical markets of the country and wider region.
Governor Kimemia was elected the first head of the bloc after the 2017 General Election.
