National Council for Persons with Disabilities Executive Director, Mr. Harun Hassan, in a consultative meeting with a Nyandarua County Government delegation led by Her Excellency (Amb). Ann Kimemia at the Council’s headquarters in Nairobi.

Among areas identified for collaboration include mobilization of PWDs for registration; education bursaries and scholarships; assistive devices; advocacy and awareness programmes; economic empowerment; and tools of trade.

The First Lady, who is the matron of PLWDs in Nyandarua, has been a champion for a wide range of causes, including healthcare for the aged, women, orphans and other vulnerable children.
At today’s meeting, she highlighted County Government interventions, including collaboration and financial support during the International Day for PWDs; targeted Beyond Zero Mobile Clinic outreaches; issuance of sanitary towels to girls at the Nyandarua School for the Deaf and rite of passage for boys at Kimaru Special School.

Mr. Hassan committed to provide tricycles for each of Nyandarua’s 25 wards ahead of the County’s inaugural Paralympics; opportunities for County Government officers to learn Kenya Sign language; mainstreaming sensitization and partnership in a baseline survey to establish the status of PWDs.

This will be capped by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
In attendance was County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Hon. Ann-Mary Gathigia, PWDs Nyandarua leader Mr. Godwin Mugo, Resource Mobilization Officer Ms. Monica Wainaina and overall head, Ms. Winnie Mbugua.
