Representing His Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia, County Executive Committee Member for Youths, Sports, Gender and Social Services Hon. Anne Mary Gathigia today led several County residents in planting more than 1,500 indigenous trees at Gathanji (Kwa Ngara) Dam in Gathanji Ward, Ol’Jororok Sub-County.
The exercise, which marked World Water Day 2021 celebrations in Nyandarua, included free provision of tree seedlings for planting in homesteads.
In remarks delivered on his behalf by Hon. Gathigia, Governor Kimemia assured residents of his ongoing commitment to provide clean water for domestic use across Nyandarua.
Officials from the Kenya Forest Service hailed the County boss for enhancing Nyandarua’s forest cover through various tree planting initiatives.
The event was sponsored by the County Government, the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency.
Other partners included the Kenya Wildlife Service; National Environmental Management Authority; Kenya Forest Research Institute; Water Resource Users Association; Nyandarua Water and Sanitation Company and Nyahururu Water and Sanitation Company.
Present was County Commissioner Mr. Benson Leparmorijo, Rift Valley Water Works Chief Executive Officer Eng. Hosea Wendot and County Executive Committee Member for Education, Culture and the Arts Hon. Daniel Wangenye, alongside chief officers Mr. Martin Mwangi (Water, Environment and Climate Change), Ms. Mary Waithera (Tourism and Natural Resources) and Ms. Mary Ndorongo (Public Administration and Information Communication Technology).
