The County Government in conjunction with Kenya Railways have started the rehabilitation work of Gilgil-Nyahururu railway. With the completion of this noble project, return of the Train services will build on the lessons from history of this line.

On July 3, 2020, I encouraged Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) to fast-track the opening up of the line. The extension is a specific commitment I made in the third pillar of my manifesto ahead of the election in 2017, in which I promised to lobby the National Government to rehabilitate the section and ultimately upgrade it to a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line. It is also expected to be linked to the Naivasha dry port. KRC Managing Director Mr. Phillip Maingi pledged speedy rehabilitation.
400 youth from Nyandarua are currently involved for its rehabilitation.
The opening of the railway line in Nyandarua is the greatest touch of history reminding the residents of the great potential that we have in this county. The colonial rulers back in the day had identified Nyandarua as a very fertile land for agriculture as well as a marvellous tourist destination.
The railway line provided them with easy access to the region and made it possible for them to transport their agricultural produce to the market in Nairobi and abroad.
