H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta concluded a grueling eight hour visit to Nyandarua County on April 14, 2016 that took him to four sub-counties of Ol’joro-orok, Ol’Kalou, Kipipiri and Kinangop.
Accompanied by his host, Nyandarua Governor H.E Daniel Waithaka Mwangi and all Members of Parliament from Nyandarua County, the Head of State commissioned health projects in J.M Kariuki Memorial and Engineer Hospitals and also commissioned the Huduma Center in Ol’Kalou town.
The President’s entourage included Deputy President H.E William Ruto and Cabinet Secretaries Dr. C. Mailu (Health) and Sicily Kariuki (Public Service), among other senior government officials. The Nyandarua MPs included Senator Eng. Muriuki Karue, Hon David Kiaraho (Ol’Kalou), JM Waiganjo (Ol’joro-Orok), Hon. Waweru Nderitu (Ndaragwa), Hon. Samuel Gichigi (Kipipiri), Hon. Stephen Kinyanjui (Kinangop) and Women REp Hon. Wanjiku Muhia.
The President held a leaders’ meeting at Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology where he was handed over a memorandum from Nyandarua leaders.
He later addressed road-side rallies at Kasuku, Ol’Kalou, Miharati, Mawingo, Ndunyu Njeru and Engineer towns.
The President suspended commissioning the Engineer maternity hsopital and Kipipiri TTC pending competion of some construction works. he promised to return soon and visit JM Memorial and Engineer hospitals to ascertain the supply of equipment for cancer, and kidney related diseases.
He will also be returning to Nyandarua to commission the tarmacking of Machinery-Gilgil Road, kariamu- Kirima-Mailo Inya Road, Ndinda-Kirima Roads and Ol’Kalou town roads. he said work on the roads will commence after tender documents were processed.
The President was received by jubilant crowds who promised support for Jubilee government in the forthcoming general elections.
On his part, the President promised to personally spearhead the cause for Nyandarua, saying it could not be compared to other counties in Mount Kenya region since it lacked basic infrastructure due to historical reasons.
He challenged the people of Nyandarua to cultivate their own identity and stop behaving like they were an extension of Nyeri, Murang’a and Kiambu counties.
He said Nyandarua must have its own identity as it had unique history and must be allocated higher budget since it was a marganialised area. He said the national government will team up with the county government to finance the construction of county headquarters in Ol’Kalou town
