Government moves to make use of Happy Valley Homes
Nyandarua County Government is seeking for partnership with owners of 18 former Happy Valley Homes to attract tourist and investors.
During a meeting held in Olkalou today June 5, 2015, the Minister for Tourism, Sports and Wildlife Hon Peter Gathimba gave proposals to the home owners. He is seeking to lease the homes, buy or enter into partnership with owners for use of the facilities as tourist attraction.
‘’I urge you all to take advantage of the upcoming Mt Kipipiri Golf Resort with 600 villas and an airstrip. I believe the resort will encourage more tourists to spend their money in Nyandarua rather than going to Naivasha, Nanyuki ior Mombasa which has been the norm’’ said Hon Gathimba during a meeting with the Happy Valley stakeholders at Olkalou town.
The County Government will then market the said homes both nationally and Internationally to create a tourist circuit that will interconnect Nyandarua County and other neighboring counties.
In addition, the home owners are at liberty to renovate the homes to make them “Homestays” that will attract tourists.
Most of the home-owners welcomed the proposal by the county government and announced they will soon present their proposal to the department.
Gathimba was accompanied by his Chief Officer Mr. John Gitau Njoroge and other government officials.
Mr. Peter Nuthu Muchiri, the owner of Clouds (Mawingu)House in Kipipiri Sub-County which was the Headquarters of the Happy Valley Homes, speaks during a stakeholders meeting in Ol’Kalou town.
