GOVERNOR UNVEILS MULTI-MILLION SHILLINGS TULAGA ANIMAL FEEDS- MILL
A farmers’ co-operative society in Kinangop sub-county has launched a multi-million shillings animal-feeds mill to enable members boost milk yields.
Tulaga Farmers’ Co-operative Society unveiled the project during a colorful ceremony presided over by Nyandarua Governor H.E. Daniel Waithaka Mwangi near Engineer town.
The new plant has the capacity to produce 80 bags weighing 70 kg each per day and is expected to distribute animal feeds and other products to milk producers across the county.
The Governor said he was satisfied by the management of the society noting that it had another plant for production of milk-related products such as yoghurt, butter, and long-life milk.
He said the county government had assisted the society to acquire the animal feeds after donating Sh1 million mid last year.
“I expect that Tulaga Farmers’ Society will be the pace-setter in this region by providing farmers with animal-feeds to enable them boost their yields,” the Governor said.
He said production of milk in Nyandarua had hit 61.8 million liters for which farmers pocketed a cool Sh1.2 billion.
However, the county had the capacity to produce ten times more if farmers adopted zero-grazing methods and select high-quality breeds of animals, the Governor said.
He called for liquidation of collapsed societies that had remained dormant for over 10 years noting that property that formerly belonged to such societies had remained in the hands of a few people.
The Governor revealed that his administration had partnered with farmers’ co-operatives by providing them with cash, milk coolers and other equipment in their area of specialization.
He called on societies to diversify their business by venturing into new areas such as horticulture, meat and milk products.
