On the 8th of July this year, Nyandarua County First Lady Her Excellency (Amb.) Ann Kimemia held a meeting with spouses of male Members of the County Assembly to chart the way forward on curbing rising cases of teen pregnancies across Nyandarua.
As a follow up to the consultations, Her Excellency (Amb.) Ann Kimemia earlier this morning in the company of Magumu Ward MCA Hon. Hussein Ndung’u Kassana’s spouse, Mrs. Kassana, visited Various school grounds where she met and interacted with young girls from across the ward.
With an upsurge in teen pregnancy cases being reported across the country , Mrs. Kimemia assured the young girls that as women leaders and mothers, they are committed to remaining at the forefront in curb incidences of teen pregnancies including by forming peer support groups at the ward level, down to the villages.
“I request our young girls to focus on their education and keep off bad company for a better tomorrow.” Said the First Lady. She at the same time called upon parents/guardians to step up their parenting roles and take particular care of their daughters especially after the cancellation of this academic calender in the wake of COVID-19.
The leaders urged the County government to consider organizing counselling sessions for the youth grappling with stress and anxiety emanating from COVID 19 and related issues.
The First Lady was accompanied by Hon. Salome Gathoni (Nominated MCA) among other County and other officials donated hampers containing sanitary towels to last five months as well as take home foodstuffs for 546 girls from St Christopher’s village and the adjacent neighbourhoods of Mutonyora and Kenyatta Road.
