Following the report by the Ministry of Health of a confirmed COVID-19 case in Kenya by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, County Executive Committee Member for Health Services Hon. (Dr.) John Mungai briefs journalists at the JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital in Ol’Kalou on Nyandarua’s preparedness to handle the pandemic.
Representing His Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia, who chairs the County Emergency Response Committee on COVID-19, Hon. (Dr.) Mungai reiterated that the County Government has put in place measures to handle any case of the disease, including isolation units at the JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital (eight bed), Engineer County Hospital (eight beds) and North Kinangop Catholic Hospital (six beds).
Hon. (Dr.) Mungai showcased personal protective materials received from the National Government, with more in the pipeline following an extensive request from the committee for equipment, training and funding.
He was accompanied by trained medical personnel.
Representing County Commissioner Mr. Boaz Cherutich, Deputy County Commissioner for Nyandarua Central Mr. Gideon Oyagi warned against misinformation and panic.
In compliance with the National Security Council’s directive on the disease, Mr. Oyagi warned that both the National and County Governments shall not permit any gatherings which will expose the public to or spread COVID-19.
