Governor inaugurates 400 ECD preparatory assistants.
The County Government of Nyandarua has recruited 400 preparatory assistants to serve in ECD classes in all the 25 wards.
Nyandarua Governor H.E. Daniel Waithaka Mwangi inaugurated the 400 recruits today during a colorful ceremony in Ol’Kalou town that was attended by County Commissioner Mr. Wilson Njega, County Assembly Speaker Hon. Ndegwa Wahome and Deputy Governor H.E. Waithaka Mwangi Kirika.
Over 20 Members of the County Assembly attended the function alongside Members of the Executive Committee, Chief Officers and members of the public.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Governor revealed that his administration had put up 35 ECD classes across the county at a cost of Sh600,000 per class bringing to a total of Sh21 million.
He said another 15 ECD classes would be completed before the end of this year.
The Governor said his administration would hire 300 preparatory assistants each year until the County attained the optimal level of 1200 preparatory assistants.
He said the county government has also focused on the development of Youth Polytechnics to cater for class eight pupils who were unable to proceed to secondary school level. He added that some 13 youth polytechnics have so far benefited from the project.
Speaker Ndegwa Wahome said the recruitment of preparatory assistants was a positive development in the promotion of ECD education adding that the County Assembly wholly supported the project.
“We shall support the recruitment of other preparatory assistants and we hope this will promote ECD education in our county,” the Speaker said.
Deputy Governor Waithaka Kirika urged the new recruits to support the county government in its endeavor to promote early childhood education in the grassroots.
“We have done something for you by hiring you as preparatory assistants. Please you should reciprocate by supporting the County Government and its activities,” he said.
Among the County Ministers present included Hon. Peter Macharia (Education), Hon. George Kimani (County Attorney and ICT), Hon, Judy Mwangi (Co-operatives), Hon. Peter Gathimba (Tourism and Sports), Hon. Nderi Ndiani (Finance).
