REPRIEVE IN NYANDARUA HOUSING CRISIS
The skyline in Nyandarua is set to change, following a plan by the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to construct modern houses at the County Government headquarters in Ol’Kalou.
Acceleration of the plan follows a meeting between a technical team from the NHC and the County Executive Member in charge of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Lawrence Mukundi, at his office in Ol’Kalou.
The project aims at providing houses for civil servants and members of the public.
“The project will start next year. We shall have a ground breaking ceremony in February 2018,” said Hon. Mukundi.
He said the project shall be expanded across Nyandarua to upgrade housing standards and the County’s outlook.
The technical team inspected the proposed site of construction behind the new County Assembly chambers.
“We shall adhere to new technology in construction, and transfer the same skills to locals for increased environmental stewardship,” said Mr. Jackson Mwaura, the team leader.
In his Jamhuri Day address, His Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia hailed the project.
“It has been brought to my attention that the National Housing Corporation and Nyandarua have previously engaged each other, and a pre-feasibility study towards housing in Ol’Kalou done in March 2017,” he said.
Unlike other major towns in the country, Ol’Kalou is still building its infrastructure, with most County Government staff members currently living in neighbouring counties.
