STATEMENT BY H.E GOVERNOR FRANCIS KIMEMIA, E.G.H, C.B.S FOLLOWING A MEETING WITH LEADERSHIP OF THE NYANDARUA COUNTY ASSEMBLY, RELEASED IN OL’KALOU ON APRIL 27TH, 2020
In line with our ongoing whole-government approach towards combating the global pandemic Covid-19, Her Excellency Deputy Governor Cecilia Mbuthia has this afternoon led members of my County Executive Committee in a meeting with the Nyandarua County Assembly and its leadership led by Hon. Speaker Ndegwa Wahome.
Issues discussed included:
1. Infection prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic in our County where the meeting unanimously expressed satisfaction with the measures undertaken so far while agreeing on the way forward and further interventions needed;
2. Second Supplementary Budget for Financial Year 2019/2020 which has proposed several changes which aim at actualizing some of the capital-intensive interventions. Some of the sectors targeted include the Department of Health Services whose allocation has been enhanced to support the Covid-19 interventions and establishment of the County ICU facility at the J.M Memorial Hospital and medical staff welfare and incentives, and purchase of strategic stock for hospitals; the Department of Social Services under which relief and welfare interventions for the vulnerable will fall; Department of Agriculture to enable purchase and distribution of subsidized certified seeds and fertilizer; the County Public Service Board to enable accelerated recruitment of additional staff for the Department of Health Services and replenishment to the Emergency kitty;
Further allocations touch on enabling the Department of Water undertake uninterrupted water distribution to all residents including ensuring reconnection of community-owned boreholes; and to the Departments of Youth, Trade and Governance to engage in community targeted interventions.
3. Mechanism for operationalization of in-house machines and equipment which will greatly transform how we construct our roads in the County.
Importantly, I welcome the County Assembly and its leadership’s unconditional support as our great County continues to grapple with the unprecedented challenges arising from COVID-19. The County Assembly has equally reallocated resources towards combating the pandemic in the County and has committed to fast-track the Second Supplementary Budget for the Financial Year 2019/2020 within this week while fully more actively engaging with our planning and attendant interventions against COVID-19.
Additionally, I particularly welcome the Assembly’s assurance to finalize the process of vetting of Chief Officers tomorrow and allow for their assumption of office without any further delay.
I also thank each one of us, and especially our residents, who continue to adhere to Government directives on preventing COVID-19. My gratitude also goes to our Health Workers whose commitment and dedication has continued to give us perfect reassurances during this trying moment – they remain our heroes and heroines in this war. Together, we will win with Almighty God helping us!
