His Excellency Governor (Dr.) Moses Kiarie Badilisha has promised to revive the Pyrethrum sector in order to respond and tap into the growing global demand for organic interventions to pests and natural Pyrethrin.
Speaking this morning when he hosted Mr. Brian Mckenzie, the CEO of Kentegra Company, a global leader in pyrethrum growing and processing, Governor Badilisha expressed his intention to have the once famed cash crop back “where we will increase acreage as well as push for a local processing plant in the County.”
With the right volumes and farmers under their contract – an undertaking the Governor promised to lead, Kentegra has committed to establish a processing factory in Nyandarua to cater for the regional market.
Currently, according to Mr. Mckenzie, the company is buying pyrethrum at a minimum price of Ksh. 250 per kilogram and graduated upwards per pyrethrin content. Jointly, the County department of Agriculture and the company intend to put approximately 2000 acres of land under pyrethrum farming within this year.
Present in the meeting were the Deputy Governor His Excellency Mathara Mwangi, CECM Agriculture Hon. Francis Miring’u among other officers.
