Following up on a partnership struck between His Excellency Governor Francis Kimemia and DanChurchAid to train Nyandarua’s youth on self-reliance under the AjiraPoa program, the Department of Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services today organized a one-day inter-departmental sensitization meeting with the para-church organization.
The program seeks to address unemployment through simulation of demand (jobs); enrichment of supply (skills) and foundation of guidance through public and private sectors.
It will also adopt two Vocational Training Centers in Nyandarua for training and to assess the viability of concepts involving apprenticeship in local companies.
An inter-departmental committee was formed and tasked with internalizing the project; developing work-plans and timelines; linkage with information communication technology platforms; alongside registration and enrollment of participants.
The initiative, which began on March 1, 2021 ends in 2024.
Present was County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Hon. Ann-Mary Gathigia, her Chief Officer Mr. Isaac Wanjiru; Danish Church Aid Project Manager Mr. Mark Abaha and County Director of Youth Affairs Ms. Mary Njugi, among other senior County Government officials.
